InfoSec Institute helps with free tip sheet to keep your data safe

MADISON, Wis., Jan. 24, 2019 - Personal information on our banking practices, healthcare habits and shopping preferences is being collected, shared and used by companies and organizations at a whirlwind rate. Taking steps to secure that information can be daunting for companies and individuals alike. Even a few small steps can make a big difference in protecting your personal information. That’s why InfoSec Institute is joining the National Cyber Security Alliance and other Data Privacy Day Champions to spread the word about safeguarding personal data.

Held annually on January 28, Data Privacy Day serves as a reminder of the international effort to create conversations and empower people and organizations to respect privacy, safeguard data and enable trust.

“We’re all quick to take the latest survey on social media, click on location sharing or log on to a site using one of our social apps,” said Lisa Plaggemier, Chief Evangelist at InfoSec Institute. “Every time we do that, we’re sharing private information. We can all be better stewards of our personal information by arming ourselves with education and awareness.”

InfoSec Institute, the leading provider of IT security education and workforce security awareness training, created a free downloadable poster 10 Ways To Protect Your Personal Data. Tips include simple steps for the home and office, such as staying current on your computer’s security updates and using two-factor authentication when logging into accounts.

“I hope company leaders will print copies, hang them in their workplace and take the day to have good conversation about staying vigilant and safeguarding data at work and at home,” Plaggemier added.

InfoSec Institute has been working to make cybercrime unprofitable since 2004. The company offers comprehensive education and security awareness programs to help organizations and their employees stay ahead of cybercriminals, plus a full line of training and certification courses for IT and security professionals.
