      Frequently Asked Questions

What does this A+ training course provide that other offerings do not?

InfoSec Institute has provided award-winning training for the past 17 years. We give our students all the tools they need to pass their certification exams, including access to the best A+ instructors in the industry. Our students also boast the highest pass rate in the industry—94%!

How does the A+ compare to other certifications?

CompTIA’s A+ is considered entry-level certification for PC computer service professionals, and serves as a great stepping-stone for beginners looking to earn higher-level certifications in the future. The exam tests a candidate’s abilities to install, maintain, customize, and operate personal computers.

What are the Pre-Requirements for the A+ certification?

There are no pre-requirements for the A+ certification, but CompTIA recommends candidates have 9-12 months of hands-on experience in the field before attempting certification.

How does the A+ examination process work?

The exam has a maximum of 90 questions that candidates must complete within 90 minutes. In order to pass, you must score 700 out of 900 possible points. Question types range from multiple choice (single and multiple response), drag-and-drops, and performance-based.

What are Performance Based Questions (PBQs)?

Performance Based Questions (PBQs) test your ability to solve a specific problem within a simulated environment. They are more involved than the standard multiple choice or drag-and-drop questions, and require candidates to manage their time effectively.

What do I need to know about the new Performance Based Questions (PBQs)?

There are several things to note about Performance Based Questions. First, PBQs typically appear near the start of your test. The exam clock isn’t visible while you solve them, and knowing this can help you allot an appropriate amount of time to solving them. Second, if you don’t feel confident about your ability to answer a PBQ, you can mark that question for review and return at a later point in time to pick up where you left off. Finally, some PBQs allow for more than one way to achieve a correct answer, and in these instances partial credit can be received. Click here for a more detailed breakdown of PBQs.

How is the A+ Related to the DoD 8570?

The Department of Defense (DoD) Directive 8570 requires that anyone seeking a government job related to information security needs to receive a mandated certification. CompTIA’s A+ certification qualifies holders for the Technical Level I position. Click here for more information.

Is the online A+ Boot Camp as effective and informative as an in-person training session?

Definitely! We take great care to make sure our online and in-person Training Boot Camp participants receive the same resources and quality of training—including one-on-one feedback from our expert A+ instructors. We also offer an Exam Pass Guarantee to each of our students, so they can focus all their energy on training.

What material is covered on the A+ exam?

There are five A+ exam domains, which are as follows: Windows Operating Systems (29%), Other Operating Systems & Technologies (12%), Security (22%), Software Troubleshooting (24%), and Operational Procedures (13%). For a more detailed breakdown of each exam objective, click here to view CompTIA’s official guide.

What tools do I need to attend the training session?

InfoSec Institute supplies all of the tools you’ll need to take part in the course.

How long is the A+ certification valid after you pass the test? What are the renewal requirements?

Your certification will be valid for three years from the date of passing the A+ exam. In order to renew it, you’ll need to take part in CompTIA’s Continuing Education (CE) program. This program requires you to complete and report 20 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) every three years, at which point your A+ certification will automatically renew.

Is a A+ exam voucher included with the purchase of this course?

Yes! Every purchase of an InfoSec Institute Training Boot Camp includes an exam voucher.

How many times can I retake the exam if I fail the first time?

CompTIA exams don’t require any waiting period between your first two exam attempts. However, before your third attempt you must wait at least 14 calendar days before retaking the exam.

What are some tips for preparing for the A+?

Above all, we recommend enrolling in a Training Boot Camp like the one offered here.
