Introduction to System Security Engineering Course
1 hour, 41 minutes
Course description
Is all engineering created equal? In a sense, yes. Generally speaking, each of the discrete engineering processes we see today evolved from ancient engineering practices. Over 7,000 years ago, humans were defining problem spaces and creating solutions to solve the problems. While our approach today might seem more sophisticated, the core principles still hold true. The object of these discussions is to familiarize you with these engineering practices. The principles and practices presented herein will serve you well for both the certification prep and for building engineering knowledge.Syllabus
Secure software engineering principles
Video - 00:10:00
While only a subsection of the security engineering process, secure software engineering carries the brunt of the security load in enterprise infrastructure. This video captures those secure software development core tenets.
Core security concepts
Video - 00:08:00
No discussion of security is complete until the core security principles have been addressed. This video addresses the core security principles.
Introduction to cyber-resiliency
Video - 00:10:00
Resiliency can be built into your solutions. In this video, we'll discuss the security engineer's viewpoint of resiliency.
Introduction to Common Criteria (ISO 15408)
Video - 00:05:00
This video will provide a short introduction into the ISO 15408 practices and processes and introduce you to critical exam vocabulary.
Information assurance technical framework (IATF)
Video - 00:17:00
This video introduces you to the IATF. The IATF provides a comprehensive look at the engineering process and system security requirements.
Project management plan
Video - 00:08:00
A program will not prevail without a plan (Murphy). This video addresses the fundamental attributes of program management planning.
Program management concepts
Video - 00:10:00
A ISSEP is expected to be well-rounded. In this video, we'll discuss some core program management concepts.
System security engineering
Video - 00:08:00
This video introduces you to the engineering framework, outcomes and processes.
Introduction to ISSEP
Video - 00:14:00
This video introduces you to the ISSEP practice space; the desired outcomes of security engineering; and the typical roles and responsibilities of an Information Systems Security Engineering Professional (ISSEP).
