The often-forgotten costs of a data breach, new CISA and FBI malware warnings and halted vehicle production due to supplier cyberattack. All this, and more, in this week’s edition of Cybersecurity Weekly.
1. Hidden costs of a data breach
Don't consider just the initial costs. Hidden factors include remediation, revenue loss, reputational harm, national security — even human life.
2. CISA, FBI issue warnings on WhisperGate, HermeticWiper attacks
The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) released indicators of compromise to help threat hunters look for signs of WhisperGate and HermeticWiper, two destructive malware files seen in recent attacks.
3. Toyota halts production after a reported cyberattack on supplier
Toyota said the incident caused it to decide to suspend the operation of 28 production lines in 14 plants in Japan, starting Tuesday, March 1, 2022.
4. Cybercriminals target Microsoft Teams users with malware
Cybercriminals have targeted users of collaboration software Slack with phishing attacks, and mischief-makers have shown up uninvited to Zoom meetings. Now, attackers are targeting popular collaboration tool Microsoft Teams, according to cybersecurity firm Avanan.
