Command Line Basics – Basic Networking Utilities
This lab introduces the most popular command-line tools for testing and troubleshooting network connections, including ping, netstat, traceroute, tcpdump and others.
Command Line Basics – User Accounts and Privileges
This lab focuses on creating and assigning users to groups as well as changing the privileges of said users and groups.
Command Line Basics – File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
This lab uses an FTP server to demonstrate some of the utilities of the FTP protocol as well as some of the weaknesses.
Command Line Basics – Introduction to PowerShell
In this lab we will demonstrate the uses of PowerShell as well as the functionality as a command line tool.
Command Line Basics – IProute2 and Net-Tools
This lab has us working with Net-Tools and IPRoute2. Both of these network utilities accomplish many of the same goals and we will demonstrate the equivalent commands between them.
Command Line Basics – Navigation
This lab goes through some of the basic commands for listing and navigating between files and directories on Linux and Windows systems.
Command Line Basics – Port Scanning
This lab walks through some of the most basic port scans that every system administrator should know.
Command Line Basics – Remote Access (telnet vs. SSH)
This lab compares two commonly used methods of remote access — telnet and Secure Shell (SSH). You will go through steps of connecting to a remote host using both methods and demonstrate why SSH should be your preferred choice when there is a need for remote access.
