Today kicks off one of our favorite weeks here at InfoSec Institute — National Cybersecurity Career Awareness Week — and we’re celebrating by sharing free resources on cybersecurity careers and pathways all week long.
We love NCCAW because cybersecurity career awareness is the backbone of what InfoSec Institute does year round, and there has never been a better time to launch a career in cybersecurity. A recent (ISC)² study found the global cybersecurity workforce shortage has grown to nearly 3 million, with 498,000 of those jobs right here in the U.S. But with so many cybersecurity roles available and so many possible career paths to pursue, where should you start?
Last month we helped answer that question with our 4 Tips to Launch Your Cybersecurity Career, which included Keatron Evans’ six-month plan to get anyone up to speed on cybersecurity. This week we’re partnering with the National Initiative For Cybersecurity Education (NICE) to provide even more information on cybersecurity careers, including hot job roles, popular certifications, interview tips and more. Check out the NCCAW resource hub below:
Career Paths and Scholarship Winners
We recently announced the winners of InfoSec Institute’s 2018 Cybersecurity Scholarship Program, a new initiative designed to grow awareness of the widening cybersecurity skills and diversity gap. Throughout NCCAW we’ll be highlighting those winners and shedding light on cybersecurity career paths for aspiring cybersecurity pros.
The four scholarship winners and eight finalists each won free enrollment into three courses designed to help jump-start their cybersecurity careers:
- Network+ Flex Pro Boot Camp
- Security+ Flex Pro Boot Camp
- Specialization course (student’s choice of one additional online course)
The four winners also won free certification exam vouchers for their courses:
- Chanel Hicks — Winner of the Diversity in Cybersecurity Scholarship
- Nicholas Barrett — Winner of the Military Cybersecurity Scholarship
- Nikita Dia — Winner of the Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship
- Jion Yi — Winner of the Undergraduate Cybersecurity Scholarship
We spent the past few weeks talking to the winners about what drew them to cybersecurity and what they wanted to pursue going forward, and their responses were a reflection of the current cybersecurity landscape — wide and varied.
Stay tuned in the coming days as we share each of our scholarship winners’ stories. In the meantime, head over to our NCCAW resource hub for more free resources to help you build and advance your cybersecurity career.
