InfoSec Institute Announces 95% Pass Rate for Certified Penetration Tester (CPT) Examination
InfoSec Institute announced that in the first six months of offering the CPT to students, the pass rate for candidates who attended the course was 95%. The course that prepares individuals to sit for the CPT examination is InfoSec Institute’s Ethical Hacking course. The Ethical Hacking course prepares candidates for both, the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), as well as the CPT.
The CPT examination is a two part process. Candidates must first complete a 50 question multiple choice portion. If they pass the multiple choice portion (score of 70% or better), they are allowed to continue on to the practical portion. The practical portion is distributed on a DVD and has several components. Exam Coordinator, Tyler Higgins explained InfoSec Institute’s decision to begin proctoring the CPT last Spring by saying,
"Well, it’s certainly not easy. I must say; I was initially surprised at how many of our students were reported as submitting their CPT practical. A lot of times, exams that require a lot of independent work don’t yield a high submission return. Our job is to help students find that a lot of the things they learn in the class are real world examples that directly apply to the practical portion as well as the things they’ll see in their jobs. The CPT is one of the few exams that we’ve found really tests an individual’s knowledge and ability to absorb; then implement the things they’ve learned in the course. I think that our high submission rate from students is as high as it is simply because our attendees have a higher level of confidence that they received the knowledge they need in our course in order to successfully complete the practical. I honestly think it’s that simple."
In the past year, InfoSec Institute has become an official training partner of the Information Assurance Certification Review Board (IACRB).
